🎸 Johnny Marr and Electronic, a double celebration of legacy, energy and vinyl.
By LoffMusic Editorial Staff – July 2025
The years go by, but there are artists who never lose their pulse or their spark. Johnny Marr is one of them. This week, the former guitarist of The Smiths gives us not one, but two gifts in the form of music: a powerful live album and the return to the turntables of his electronic adventures with Bernard Sumner in Electronic.
🔥 ‘Look Out Live!’: the elegance of the live show
Recorded at the iconic Eventim Apollo during their Spirit Power Tour, Look Out Live! is not just a live album. It is a manifesto of what it means to stay current without giving up a sonic identity built on guitars, unmistakable pop melodies and attitude.
The repertoire is an emotional and electric journey: from solo songs like “Hi Hello” or “Easy Money” to The Smiths’ gems like “This Charming Man”, “How Soon Is Now?” and “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out”. But the climax comes when Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys) takes the stage to perform with Marr the legendary “Getting Away With It” by Electronic and an emotional version of “Rebel Rebel” by Bowie.
Look Out Live! will be available on September 19 in physical (including a limited orange double vinyl) and digital formats. It is more than a setlist: it is a portrait of an artist who continues to write the present with the authority of one who has lived the past intensely.
💿 Electronic: cult revival on recycled vinyl
If we talk about present with memory, we cannot ignore the vinyl reissue of Raise The Pressure (1996) and Twisted Tenderness (1999), Electronic’s last two albums. This reactivation highlights the value of a project that is sometimes underrated, but which left its mark on British electronica in the 90s for its hybrid approach between synthpop, alternative guitar and dance pulse.
Both vinyls have been remastered at Abbey Road and will arrive pressed on recycled black vinyl. This is the first time Twisted Tenderness sees the light of day in this format. If you have a turntable at home, this is your chance to relive hits like “Forbidden City”, “Vivid” or the powerful “Prodigal Son”.
✨ The art of looking back without standing still.
In parallel to these releases, Johnny Marr continues to prove that he does not live from the past. His recent live appearances with The The or his occasional collaborations are proof of an artist who never stopped exploring.
But this double move – a live album summing up a decade as a solo artist, and the vinyl return of his nineties electronic explorations – confirms something even more valuable: there are musicians whose coherence is so strong that they can look back and keep moving forward without missing a step.
And Johnny Marr, without a doubt, is one of them.
