A tribute to the legendary Black & White Bar and a new chapter for the Scottish band.
Travis gives us a collaboration with rock stars Brandon Flowers (The Killers) and Chris Martin (Coldplay) on his new single, “Raze The Bar”. This song, which is part of their upcoming album “L.A. Times”, scheduled for release on July 12, 2024, is a tribute to New York City‘s iconic Black & White bar, a revered haven for the band and other artists.
The genesis of a stellar collaboration
In an interview with NME, Travis vocalist Fran Healy reveals the story behind the union with Flowers and Martin. Healy was looking for new perspectives for the album order and turned to Martin, who not only offered valuable feedback, but also expressed his admiration for “Raze The Bar.” Impressed, Martin suggested adding more vocals to the track, which led Healy to recruit Flowers, who readily agreed.
A tribute to an icon of the music scene
Healy delves into the inspiration for the song, recalling the importance of the Black & White bar in the New York music scene and its unfortunate closure during the pandemic due to a dispute with the owner. “Raze The Bar” imagines a fictional last night at the venue, with cameos from key figures such as. Johnny T, the owner of the bar.
Musical serendipity and a long-standing connection
Travis’ connection to The Killers goes back years, with Healy recalling how his early shows in Las Vegas influenced the band, who even performed Travis’ “Side” during their rehearsals. The collaboration with Flowers and Martin marks a significant milestone for Travis as they embark on a new musical journey with their tenth studio album, “L.A. Times,” which includes the previously released single “Gaslight” and promises a bold evolution for the band.
A bright future ahead
We Travis fans can’t wait to hear “L.A. Times,” eager to dive into the track list that includes songs like “Bus,” “Live It All Again” and the title track, “L.A. Times.” As Travis prepares to join The Killers on their UK tour, the band continues to carve out a place in music history, uniting the past with the present and embracing a future full of promise.
