It’s been 25 years since nine masked men from Iowa shook the world with a brutal, unhinged and absolutely necessary debut. In 1999, Slipknot was not just an album: it was a call to the misfits, an escape valve for a generation that found refuge neither in grunge nor in classic metal. And now, a quarter of a century later, the band dusts off their first sonic vomit with a reissue as generous as it is dangerous.
Slipknot (25th Anniversary Edition) will be released on September 5, 2025 via Roadrunner Records and will be available in multiple formats: digital, double vinyl, double CD, and a stunning 6-vinyl box set with 59 tracks, many of them previously unreleased.
The past has never been so raw
Among the treasures to be included in this reissue are never-before-heard original mixes, early demos, alternate versions of key tracks, and live recordings taken from their first world tour – when Slipknot was an unleashed beast, still unpolished, roaring through every stage as if it were their last.
You can now listen to one of those relics: the original demo of “Prosthetics“, an embryonic version of the song that already in its final form was disturbing, and that in this take sounds even sicker, more visceral, more Slipknot.
A box for collectors… and survivors
The box set is literally a black box of modern metal. Includes:
- The original album(Slipknot, 1999)
- Demos of tracks such as “Wait and Bleed”, “Only One”, “Interloper” or “Snap”.
- Previously unreleased mixes by Jay Baumgardner, Terry Date and Lars Ulrich Wild
- Reinterpretations such as “Spit It Out (Stamp You Out Mix)” or “(Sic) (Molt-Injected Mix)”.
- Live versions of their first global tour
A true archeological document of a band that exploited hatred and youth trauma to turn it into community and catharsis.
It is not nostalgia: it is testimony
In times where many reissues sound like marketing excuses, this one by Slipknot smells like something else: dried blood, putrid sweat and truth. Because Slipknot was an album that was recorded in constant tension. Under the production of Ross Robinson, at the mythical Indigo Ranch Studios, the band faced the challenge of capturing on record the absolute chaos of their live performance. And they succeeded.
With this edition, we are given access to the monster’s entrails: not the made-up version, but the rough, violent, emotionally devastating one. The real one.
A generation in pieces (and celebrating)
Slipknot released their final studio album, The End, So Far, in 2022, and held a special tour last year to mark the anniversary. But this reissue puts things in perspective: beyond masks and controversy, this debut was the violent heartbeat of an entire disenchanted generation.
And now, in equally uncertain times, Slipknot (25th Anniversary Edition) comes along to remind us of something:
rage can also be art. And darkness, sometimes, is a home.
