MODEL is born in 2019 in Brighton, England. Two Zaragozans get together to make music, and there they feed on the busking culture, very present in the UK. MODELO find their own way to enter the big festivals this 2023 and return to their roots, busking.
Batz (drums and producer) and Jorge Doherty (composer and singer) hit the streets at the first opportunity to put their songs to the test, influenced by what other musicians in the city are doing. To save space, they exchange their guitar for a ukulele, and their drums for a children’s drum kit, which they drag around town in a shopping cart, and which became a symbol of the formation. Brighton is a tourist and multicultural city, which offers them the opportunity to showcase their music in front of thousands of people from dozens of countries. A few months into their career, they are already known in Brighton as “the two Spaniards who play and jump on the beach”, and become a local phenomenon.
This is how in their first summer as a group, reach stages in England, France and Spain. It was also during this period that a member of the legendary reggae band UB40 found them playing in the street, and offered to join their world tour, with the idea that they could take their street music to every corner of the planet. Since then, Jorge and Batz work as technical crew on tours in Australia, United States, New Zealand, Mexico, Europe, and take the opportunity to play their music in the streets of all these places.
In 2020, part of MODELO returns to its hometown, Zaragoza. There, they give dozens of concerts in venues and festivals in the area, having an exponential growth in their fanbase, all thanks to their powerful and explosive live performance. But Modelo is bumping into the door of the big festivals, an imminent destination for the duo.
This is how they reinvent their game, and decide to bring their street music to Spain in 2023. So, they travel to Aranda de Duero, where Sonorama Ribera is held, and play 5 improvised street sets, making hundreds of festival goers dance and jump.
Both the festival and the press are listening to this fact, and less than a month later they sneak into another festival, this time the ViveLatino, where they once again appear in an improvised way to cheer up the festival-goers among other groups. An identity is born there.
His influences range from electronic producers like AVICII, to artists and bands like TwentyOnePilots and Imagine Dragons. MODELO ‘s music is self-produced, being themselves the ones who compose, record, produce and mix all their songs. So far, the duo has only released singles independently, but they are working on an EP for 2024, along with the biggest concert they have prepared to date.
“Caída Libre” is MODELO‘s second single, preceding the release of their first EP “Mira Mamá”. The track fuses urban with festival elements, an evolution of their signature sound. It is highlighted by a catchy instrumental, taken from an earlier song by the members’ former band. The lyrics reflect on the band’s turning point, addressing the efforts in pursuit of a dream. Although it adopts a darker perspective, it retains the distinctive luminous atmosphere of Modelo
