It doesn’t come from the hype.
It doesn’t come from the algorithm.
It doesn’t come from the industry.
Cuarto Marginal returns with Para Fumadores Sin Tabaco, an EP that will be released at the end of March, and is presented as one of the rawest, most honest and necessary stories of the new Spanish alternative rock. The first preview will arrive on January 30, and it does not seek to please: it seeks to tell the truth, even if it makes you uncomfortable.
From the emotional precariousness, anxiety and daily survival, the young Canarian artist signs a work that flees from the empty glamour and inflated noise to place himself in a much more uncomfortable -and more real- place: that of those who create without a network, without money and without permission.
A first single that speaks of emptiness (January 30)
The single that opens this new stage, “a man without tobacco” (see the acoustic version below) due on January 30, delves into an experience recognizable for a whole generation: the disappearance of a symbiotic relationship that occupied everything. Time, ambitions, identity. When the bond is broken after sincerity, what remains is not liberation, but emptiness.
Without knowing where to go, without support and without certainties, the song portrays that moment in which the only thing left to do is to survive, make risky decisions and settle accounts with the self of the past, the one that was inhibited by a toxic relationship. There is no moral or epic imposture: there is rawness, guilt, anger and a glimpse of reconstructed dignity.
For Smokers Without Tobacco and unfiltered thrill (end of March)
The EP Para Fumadores Sin Tabaco, to be released at the end of March, combines the traditional elements of a rock band with a wildly emotional direction, regulated between intuitive, uncalculated decisions and moments of surprising precision.
Here coexist rough guitars, open structures and a vocal performance that does not hide behind the technique. There are echoes that can remind us of references such as Modern Baseball, King Krule or Title Fight, but always from a language of their own, without cosplay or impostor nostalgia.
The songs -currently available in premaster version- work more as emotional documents than as closed products. Everything sounds close, imperfect, human. Exactly therein lies their strength.
Growth without industry and community before numbers
During the 2024/2025 season, Cuarto Marginal has consolidated an international fan base organically, sharing daily fragments of compositions and creative processes on social networks. No campaigns, no purchased playlists, no promotional budgets.
That silent work allowed her first full-length, Así ha sido mi viaje Jessica (I traveled as I could and I show it to you as I can), to find an unexpected echo in the international indie emo scene. Especially with the track “Por 2 Horas (directo en Asturias)”, recorded during their national independent tour in August.
With no media or industry support behind it, the song became an underground cult piece in 2025, generating versions, covers and a deep connection with teenagers who start writing songs with borrowed guitars and shared rooms.
A past that explains the urgency
None of this is a pose.
At the age of 19, during his time in the army, Cuarto Marginal was diagnosed with an asocial disorder and depressive personality. That only put a name to a reality he had been dragging along since he was seventeen: years of deep depression, isolation and confinement.
In 2019 he was singled out by Mondo Sonoro as one of the most promising emerging artists of the national circuit, after signing with Primavera Labels the first songs recorded in his room. The pandemic truncated that momentum and left a deep psychological wound.
Instead of protecting himself, he threw himself into a self-destructive spiral: more than thirteen moves in two years, squatting houses, storage rooms, rehearsal rooms, no economic stability, severe anxiety and constant panic attacks. All of that is -in one way or another- inside his songs.
Today, his music represents a partial reconciliation with the outside world, a mature blend of his two life stages: obscurity and survival.

Alternative rock without makeup
Para Fumadores Sin Tabaco does not pretend to save Spanish rock.
But it does remind us that it can still hurt, that it can still be a refuge for those who don’t fit in, and that thousands of souls can still be won over without money, godfathers or industry.
Sometimes that is more revolutionary than any trend.
