After more than two years of recording silence, Wolf Alice has announced their long-awaited comeback with the release of their new single, “Bloom Baby Bloom,” scheduled for May 15 at 18:30 BST. The track marks their first release since 2021’s acclaimed Blue Weekend album.
A new era: floral aesthetics and enigmatic messages
The London-based band, consisting of Ellie Rowsell, Joff Oddie, Joel Amey and Theo Ellis, has been hinting at their return for the past few weeks. On April 16, they updated their social media image and launched a new interactive website under the name “Bloom – Wolf Alice,” where fans could subscribe to receive updates. By doing so, they received a message with the phrase: “Every flower needs to neighbor with the dirt”, which also appears in the lyrics of the new single.
In addition, they shared images of Rowsell on a motorcycle and Ellis wearing a leather jacket with the band’s name on the back, reinforcing the renewed aesthetic of this new stage.
First previews: powerful lyrics and catchy melodies
On April 17, subscribers received an email with what appears to be a handwritten letter sheet, including lines such as:
“Do I have to make you, sit on your hands / Fucking baby, baby man / Do you want me to show you, who I am / See this fire in my eyes boy / That’s your flash in the pan.”
These lyrics suggest a more mature and introspective direction for the band, addressing issues of identity and self-esteem. Along with the lyrics, a short audio snippet was shared, an upbeat and catchy tune that has generated enthusiasm among fans.
Expectations and next steps
The release of “Bloom Baby Bloom” marks the beginning of a new phase for Wolf Alice, now under the Columbia Records label after ending their contract with Dirty Hit. In addition, the band is scheduled to perform at major festivals such as Glastonbury 2025 and Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool, suggesting that this single could be the prelude to a new album.
Fans have shown their enthusiasm on social media, sharing theories and expectations about the new material. The combination of renewed aesthetics, deep lyrics and captivating melodies indicates that Wolf Alice is ready to blossom again on the music scene.
