More than 25 years after Ray of Light, the album that redefined her career and altered the course of electronic pop, Madonna finally gives birth to Veronica Electronica, a project that remained a myth among fans and collectors. Now, on July 25, this “lost” material will officially see the light of day: remixes, rarities and a previously unreleased demo that expand the sonic universe of one of the Queen of Pop’s most luminous eras.
A project developed in the shadows
Originally conceived in 1998 as a sister album to Ray of Light, Veronica Electronica was to be a remix album intended for the clubs, released under a more underground aesthetic. But the monumental success of the original album – with over 16 million copies sold and four Grammy Awards – overshadowed its release.
“It was always more than a remix album. It was another state of mind, another sonic skin,” Madonna said in a recent interview.
Now, at a time when her legacy is being celebrated and reissued in a big way, Madonna is allowing herself to look back… with her eyes sharpened and the dance floor fired up.
Heavenly beats, legendary producers
The album features heavyweight collaborations: William Orbit, BT, Sasha, Victor Calderone, and the late Peter Rauhofer sign deep, hypnotic remixes, some of them unreleased, others barely available in limited editions from the 2000s.
In addition, “Gone, Gone, Gone” stands out , an unreleased demo co-produced with Rick Nowels that rescues the most vulnerable and ethereal side of Madonna, connecting directly with pieces such as “The Power of Good-Bye” or “Drowned World”.
The vinyl edition – silver, as part of their Silver Collection –will be accompanied by an exclusive lithograph, making this album a cult object.
A new cycle is being insinuated
Madonna not only revisits the past: she also reconfigures it. She recently confirmed that she is working on new music with her trusted collaborator Stuart Price, which could lead to a sort of Confessions on a Dance Floor Pt. II . London sessions and nods to club sounds confirm that the dancefloor is still his natural territory.
And that’s not all: a Netflix project directed by Shawn Levy and a possible duet with Elton John suggest that this revival is not anecdotal, but strategic. Madonna is curating her archive… and preparing a new act.
