American actor plays Dylan classics in the long-awaited biopic
On December 25, the highly anticipated Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, arrives in theaters. Directed by James Mangold and starring Timothée Chalamet, the film promises to immerse audiences in the life and music of the legendary singer-songwriter.
One of the most exciting surprises is that Chalamet not only plays Dylan on screen, but also sings some of his classics. The film’s soundtrack, which will also be released on December 25, includes versions of “Girl From the North Country” and “Like a Rolling Stone,” among others.
In “Girl From the North Country,” Chalamet shares the voice with co-star Monica Barbaro, who plays Joan Baez.
Director James Mangold explained in a press release, “For me, there was only one way to make this film: cast deeply talented, ambitious (and brave enough!) actors to embody the entirety of the artists they would play. And to inhabit that world, those artists had to be able to sing the songs. We were never trying to replace the power, beauty and majesty of what already exists, but to celebrate it.”
A vinyl release of the soundtrack is scheduled for January, according to the press release. The full track list has not yet been disclosed.
