A new facet of Olly Alexander
Olly Alexander has shared his latest single, “Archangel”, a track loaded with hope and eternal optimism, which will be part of his upcoming album Polari, scheduled for release on February 7, 2025. This single, created with Danny L Harle (collaborator of Charli XCX, Dua Lipa and Caroline Polachek), shows a new facet of the iconic singer, consolidating his transition to a project under his own name after leading Years & Years.
The inspiration behind “Archangel”.
Olly describes “Archangel” as a deeply personal song, inspired by an “angel” who came into his life in a moment of darkness. While not necessarily referring to a mythological angel, the artist explains that the song celebrates that person who helped him get back on his feet and all the other “angels” he has encountered throughout his life.
“The goal was to create something that sounds eternally optimistic, redemptive, like anything is possible,” Olly said. “It’s a very special song to me, and I’m happy to release it to show another side of Polari.”
Polari’s universe
Polari, Olly Alexander’s first album under his own name, is a tribute to the innovators of electro-pop, exploring themes of desire, voyeurism and destiny. Inspired by 80’s artists such as Erasure, The Pet Shop Boys and Kate Bush, Olly hopes this project evokes the magic of that era while offering a modern and personal touch.
So far, the album has been previewed with the tracks “Cupid’s Bow” and “Polari”, and with the release of “Archangel”, Olly demonstrates his ability to reinvent himself while keeping his artistic essence intact.
A project full of emotion and authenticity
In Olly’s own words, working on Polari has been a special and rewarding experience. Speaking from the MTV EMAs red carpet, he expressed his excitement to share more music under his own name, noting how this new phase has allowed him to connect more deeply with his art and his fans.
A hymn for optimists
With “Archangel,” Olly Alexander delivers not only a track full of positive energy, but also a universal message of gratitude, self-improvement and infinite possibility. It is a preview of what promises to be one of the most intimate and exciting projects of his career.
Fans can now pre-save Polari and get ready to immerse themselves in Olly Alexander’s sonic universe, where 80’s nostalgia merges with a contemporary and personal vision of electro-pop.
