Suede announces “Antidepressants”, emotional post-punk for a broken generation

By LoffMusic – May 2025

Three years after Autofiction, and after touring more than 14 countries, the legendary Suede are back. The British band presents its tenth studio album, Antidepressants, which will be released on September 5, 2025 via BMG. The first preview, “Disintegrate”, is now available and makes it clear that Suede have not come to settle in, but to reinvent post-punk from contemporary anxiety.

Broken music for broken people

With a raw, edgy and emotionally tense sonic aesthetic, Antidepressants promises to be an album that speaks directly to the fissures of the present. “It’s about the stresses of modern life, the paranoia, the anxiety, the neurosis. We’re all looking to connect on a disconnected planet,” Brett Anderson explained in announcing the release. “It’s broken music for broken people.”

This new work recaptures the intensity of Autofiction, but takes it further: while that was “our punk record,” Antidepressants will be “our post-punk record,” Anderson confesses. With production by Ed Buller, the historic collaborator who worked on their first single in 1992(The Drowners), the band has channeled the energy of their recent shows into an album that sounds organic, violent and urgent.

“Disintegrate”: raw, distorted and addictive.

The first preview, Disintegrate, is a dark and elegant explosion at the same time. The video, filmed in black and white by Chris Turner, shows the band reduced to its essence: a distorted live performance, without filters, without corrections. It is an aesthetic statement of intent, and makes it clear that Suede has found new life in imperfection.

Southbank Centre: a residence to remember

To celebrate the release, Suede have announced Suede Takeover, an artist residency at London’s Southbank Centre, where they will perform four unique concerts:

  • 📍 September 13 & 14 – Royal Festival Hall
Surprise setlist with classics, new songs and rarities.
  • 📍 September 17 – Purcell Room
An intimate, experimental and completely unprecedented show.
  • 📍 September 19 – Queen Elizabeth Hall
Suede’s first full orchestral concert with the Paraorchestra.

The band promises covers, blues, drama, melody, noise, sweat and surprises. It will be an unprecedented emotional display, ideal for longtime fans and for a new generation that identifies with their melancholic and visceral lyrics.

An album that will keep you awake at night

Recorded in Belgium, London and Sweden, Antidepressants will be released on standard CD, deluxe, colored vinyl, picture disc, cassette and a deluxe box set. The songs include titles such as Broken Music for Broken People, Trance State, Sweet Kid or Life Is Endless, Life Is A Moment.

With Suede, nothing is a coincidence. Every title, every tone, every word, speaks of a generation searching for light amidst the emotional rubble. And Antidepressants promises to be the darkest and most necessary pill of 2025.
