Radiohead celebrates 30 years of “The Bends” with B-sides and remixes playlist

Three decades have passed since Radiohead released The Bends (1995), an album that marked a turning point in their career and catapulted them as one of the most influential bands in alternative rock. To commemorate this milestone, the group has shared a special playlist with B-sides and remixes that are part of the album’s hidden history.

This compilation includes tracks such as “India Rubber”, “How Can You Be Sure?”, “Bishop’s Robes”, and the legendary “Talk Show Host”, a B-side that became one of the band’s most beloved songs after appearing in Baz Luhrmann‘s film Romeo + Juliet (1996), starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

An album that redefined the sound of Radiohead

Released in 1995 and produced by John Leckie, The Bends marked the beginning of Radiohead’s relationship with Nigel Godrich, who has worked with the band on every album since.

Songs like “Fake Plastic Trees”, “High and Dry” and “Street Spirit (Fade Out)” showed an evolution in their sound, moving away from the grunge of Pablo Honey to explore a more melodic and emotional style, which would lay the foundations for OK Computer (1997).

To celebrate this legacy, the band has also shared a previously unreleased video of Thom Yorke performing an acoustic set at Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern in 1995, where he plays intimate versions of classics such as “(Nice Dream)”, “High and Dry” and “Fake Plastic Trees”.

A new Radiohead album on the way?

In addition to the celebration of The Bends, rumors of a possible Radiohead comeback have been growing in recent weeks. On March 10, the band registered an LLP (Limited Liability Partnership) under the name RHEUK25, a move they have made in the past before releasing new albums, tours or reissues.

Although there is no official confirmation, this record has sparked speculation about possible major band activity in 2025.

For now, the members of Radiohead remain focused on their individual projects: Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood with The Smile, Ed O’Brien on his solo career, Colin Greenwood with his book How to Disappear and Philip Selway on his songwriting.

๐ŸŽค Will there be new Radiohead material on the horizon? Only time will tell.

An anniversary to remember

The 30th anniversary celebration of The Bends is not only a tribute to one of the most influential albums of the ’90s, but also a sign that Radiohead remains a band with a loyal fan base and an unwavering relevance in contemporary music.
