Pulp returns with “More”, their first album in 24 years, here you can see and hear their new single “Spike Island”.

Two decades after their last album, Pulp, one of the most important names in 90’s Britpop, announces their return with More, a new album to be released on June 6, 2025 through Rough Trade Records. The comeback is accompanied by the release of the single “Spike Island”, a song that has already generated great expectation and comes with a video clip directed by Jarvis Cocker himself.

🎵 “Spike Island”: nostalgia, irony and A.I. in the service of the analogical

The music video for “Spike Island” is a visual exploration between past and present. Jarvis Cocker used images from the booklet of Different Class (1995), introduced them into an artificial intelligence application, and generated surreal animations and scenarios. The result is a haunting and beautiful homage to the aesthetics of Pulp, passed through the technological filter of the present.

The song has the band’s unmistakable stamp: sharp lyrics, a melancholy melody and a narrative tone that moves between cinematic and confessional. “It was an emotional experiment,” Cocker explained. “I came out of the house and saw how everything seemed altered by the images the computer had generated…I don’t know if I’ve fully recovered.”

🎼 More: Pulp’s long awaited album comeback

More is Pulp’ s first album since We Love Life (2001) and, according to Cocker, it came about naturally after returning to play live in 2023. During soundchecks for their tour, the song “Hymn of the North” came up, which ignited the creative spark for a new repertoire. From there, the ideas flowed: some songs are new, others are revivals of sketches from the 1990s.

The album was recorded in just three weeks at Orbb Studio, London, under the production of James Ford, making it the fastest recording in Pulp’s history. Jarvis himself sums it up: “It was clear that it had to happen”.

🎤 Featured collaborations in More

This new Pulp album does not arrive alone. The group has counted on luxury collaborators that amplify its sonorous universe:

  • Richard Hawley composed the music for one of the themes.
  • Jason Buckle also contributes a composition of his own.
  • The Eno family participates as a choir in one of the cuts.
  • Richard Jones (member of Pulp) wrote the string arrangements, performed by The Elysian Collective.

In addition, More is dedicated to the memory of bassist Steve Mackey, who passed away in 2023, a key figure in the group’s history.

🎫 Turns on the horizon?

Following their emotional live comeback in 2023, Pulp is expected to announce new international tour dates soon, with possible concerts in the UK, Europe and America. For now, the release of More is the first step in a new phase that promises to return Pulp to the top of the alternative scene.
