Music composer Richard Melville Hall, artistically known as Moby, surprises by releasing one of the first albums of the new year. For some time now, record releases are usually made on Fridays, however, some artists do not follow the canons of the music industry and change the dates of their releases. This is the case of the American artist, who celebrates the arrival of 2023 by releasing new songs.
Under the title Ambient 23 (mobyambient, 2023) the musician from New York’s Harlem neighborhood releases new music inspired by the work of Jean-Michel Jarre, Brian Eno, Will Sergeant and Martyn Ware, among others. Created from old synthesizers and electronic drums, his new work was constructed to cope with his own anxiety, serving as personal therapy with the goal of having new compositional outlets.
After releasing his latest album Reprise (Deutsche Grammophone, 2021) two years ago compiling his classic tracks reinterpreted with orchestral arrangements, last summer he released the track ‘On Air’ in collaboration with fellow countryman Serpentwithfeet, so his sixteen new tracks come as a surprise when they had not been previously announced.
