Legendary director Martin Scorsese is behind the production of a new documentary about The Beatles titled Beatles ’64, which will premiere November 29 on Disney+. This highly anticipated film, directed by David Tedeschi, will offer fans never-before-seen footage captured by famed documentary filmmakers Albert and David Maysles, focusing the story on the iconic band’s first visit to the United States in February 1964. During that historic trip, The Beatles made their legendary appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show and performed a famous concert at Washington Coliseum.

A Journey to the Past: The Beatles’ Arrival in the U.S.

Beatles ’64 will take viewers back to that exciting moment in music history when Beatlemania conquered America. The film offers an intimate, never-before-seen look at how John, Paul, George and Ringo burst onto the American music scene, revolutionizing pop culture and marking a before and after in music history.

Production with the collaboration of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.

The documentary not only features Scorsese, but is also co-produced by the surviving band members themselves, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. This detail ensures that the story will be told from an authentic, up-close perspective, something that fans of the band will no doubt appreciate. In addition to the documentary, a special box set called The Beatles: 1964 U.S. Albums in Mono will be released, which includes seven albums remastered in their original mono version.

Among the discs in this collection are classics such as Meet the Beatles! and A Hard Day’s Night (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), all cut from the original mono tapes to provide an audio experience faithful to the first recordings.

A New Opportunity for Fans

This new documentary follows the success of The Beatles: Get Back, the Peter Jackson-directed documentary series that was released in 2021. Get Back focused on the recording of the Let It Be album, and captivated both longtime fans and new generations. Now, Beatles ’64 promises to offer another facet of the band’s story, focusing on their triumphant arrival in America and the first steps of their world domination.

In addition, it was also announced this year that each member of The Beatles will have their own biopic in a new tetralogy directed by Sam Mendes, to be released in 2027. These projects underscore the band’s enduring legacy and their continuing impact on world culture.
