After five years of recording silence, Haim is back. The Californian trio formed by Alana, Danielle and Este Haim officially announced their new album titled I Quit, which will be released on June 20th through Columbia Records.
The announcement comes accompanied by the release of their third single from 2025, “Down to Be Wrong,” a song that confirms the mature and emotional return of the group that redefined 2010s indie-pop.
A new, more introspective stage
Produced by Danielle Haim in collaboration with Rostam Batmanglij (former Vampire Weekend, now a top producer on the alternative scene), I Quit marks a turning point for the Haim sisters. As revealed in a concept video, the album revolves around the idea of leaving behind everything that doesn’t serve: overthinking, addictions, shame, toxic relationships… and even unsatisfying jobs.
The visual piece presented as a preview of the album lists a series of “I quit” statements – “I renounce…”- that give shape to the emotional background of the project.
“Down to Be Wrong” and the sound of vulnerability.
“Down to Be Wrong”, the new single, explores the acceptance of mistakes and personal contradictions. With a sober but elegant production, the sisters combine clean guitars, minimalist percussion and their characteristic vocal harmonies to convey a mix of resignation and tenderness.
This track follows the year’s two previous releases “Relationships” and “Everybody’s Trying to Figure Me Out,” cementing a narrative of self-exploration and emotional release.
The music video, available now on platforms, continues the intimate aesthetic line that defines this era of Haim.
Paul Thomas Anderson: A collaboration that continues
Legendary filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, a personal friend of the Haim family, is once again collaborating with the sisters. Anderson was commissioned to photograph the cover of I Quit, just as he did with their previous album Women in Music Pt. III (2020), which was critically acclaimed and appeared on multiple lists of the best albums of the decade.
Also, remember that Anderson directed several Haim music videos and was the one who catapulted Alana Haim to the movies as the protagonist of Licorice Pizza (2021), an Oscar-nominated film.
Haim 2025: authenticity as a banner
With I Quit, Haim not only returns to music, but does so by reaffirming their commitment to an honest and vulnerable narrative. In times where overexposure reigns supreme, the sisters are committed to showing themselves as human, imperfect and real.
A declaration of principles that, once again, places them at the heart of contemporary pop culture.
