Contempopránea returns to its roots for its 30th anniversary with the special return of Nosoträsh

The CPOP 30 Festival will celebrate three decades of pop resistance on August 21 and 22 on the slopes of Luna Castle in Alburquerque. The festival has unveiled its day-by-day lineup, making Nosoträsh’s brief return the highlight of an edition that also brings back Meteosat and features La Habitación Roja, Apartamentos Acapulco, Miguel Rivera, and new voices from the indie scene.

There are anniversaries that are best marked by looking back.

Others serve as a reminder of why it all began.

Contempopránea has chosen the second option to celebrate its 30-year history. Before its larger-scale edition, scheduled for October in Don Benito, the festival will return to Alburquerque, the emotional landscape where it began to build one of the most loyal communities in Spanish indie pop.

On August 21 and 22, 2026, the slopes surrounding Luna Castle will host the CPOP 30 Festival, a limited-capacity celebration that will bring back the intimacy, sense of discovery, and almost family-like atmosphere that defined the festival from its very beginnings.

The highlight of the event will be the exclusive return of Nosoträsh, who will break their long hiatus from the stage to perform a mini-concert designed specifically for the occasion.

There won’t be a tour.

Nor is it a conventional return.

It will be just four or five songs to toast a festival with which they share memories, sensibilities, and a particular way of understanding independent music.

The organization has officially confirmed that the CPOP 30 Festival will be held on August 21 and 22 in Alburquerque, while the main anniversary event will take place on October 16 and 17 in Don Benito.

Nosoträsh and the Comeback Nobody Expected

Nosoträsh’s appearance isn’t just another addition to the lineup.

It’s one of those news stories that can stir up the sentimental memories of an entire generation.

The Gijón-based group had been virtually absent from the public eye for more than a decade. Their return in Alburquerque is intended to be a brief and exceptional appearance, with no plans for a follow-up and free from the promotional obligations of a tour.

That limited nature makes their interaction feel more like a friendly gesture than a business meeting.

Nosoträsh emerged from the creative milieu of Xixón Sound, a scene that, during the 1990s, turned Gijón into one of the leading hotbeds of Spanish indie pop. In 1995, they won the Rockdelux demo contest with a setlist that already included “Voy a aterrizar, one of their most recognizable songs.

Their first album, *Nadie hablará de… Nosoträsh*, was released in 1998 and introduced a band capable of crafting catchy melodies without sacrificing a delicate, ironic, and entirely unique style.

Next came *Mi vida en un fin de semana*, released in 2000 and produced by Ian Catt, and *Popemas*, the album that would ultimately cement their status as a cult band.

The Importance of Popemas

Published in 2002, *Popemas* elevated the short song to an art form.

His compositions—built around minimal instrumentation, silences, small details, and seemingly everyday lyrics—proved that a song didn’t need to be four minutes long or have a big chorus to leave a lasting impression.

The album was named the best Spanish album of that year by Rockdelux and remains an essential reference for understanding a particular sensibility within the Spanish indie pop scene.

Nosoträsh would later release *Cierra la puerta al salir* in 2005, before drastically scaling back their live performances. Although they never officially announced a permanent breakup, their subsequent appearances were extremely rare.

That’s why their brief performance at Contempopránea has a touch of poetic justice to it.

A group that has made detail, intimacy, and fragility a form of resistance is returning to one of the festivals that has most vigorously defended those values in the face of market uniformity.

Contempopránea: Thirty Years of Advocating a Different Way to Experience Music Festivals

Since its inception in 1996, Contempopránea has forged an identity that is difficult to replicate.

While much of the Spanish music scene was moving toward ever-larger venues, endless lineups, and experiences that were practically indistinguishable from one another, the festival in Extremadura maintained a human scale for years.

A stage.

Two days.

A familiar setting.

And a program designed for those who still see a festival as a place of discovery, not just a list of names.

Alburquerque is an essential part of that history. The slopes surrounding Luna Castle are not just a venue; they represent the most recognizable image of Contempopránea and the place where a community took root—one that returned year after year, drawn both by the music and by a sense of belonging.

For decades, the festival has been a hub for much of the history of Spanish indie music, featuring a predominantly domestic lineup and maintaining particularly close ties with artists and labels outside the major commercial circuits.

Contempopránea Lineup by Day

The lineup for the CPOP 30 Festival combines key names from the independent scene with up-and-coming acts, DJ sets, and particularly significant comebacks.

Friday, August 21

The first day will feature:

Red Dawn
Pale Complexion
Acapulco Apartments
Meteosat
Little Evil
We’ll See
La Merienda DJ

Meteosat’s appearance will be another of this year’s major highlights. Their return ties directly into that alternative scene which, between the late 1990s and early 2000s, found a natural outlet for expression at independent festivals.

For their part, Apartamentos Acapulco will bring one of the most recognizable acts in the contemporary Mexican indie scene, with a sound built on distortion, expansive atmospheres, and melody.

Saturday, August 22

The second day will bring together:

Julien Elsie
Miguel Rivera performing Maga songs in an acoustic format
Patronato
Nosoträsh, in an exclusive mini-concert
La Habitación Roja
Nadie Patín
Photo Booth DJ

Miguel Rivera ’s acoustic performance will offer an opportunity to rediscover the repertoire of Maga, a band that is essential to understanding the most literary and emotional side of Spanish indie pop in recent decades.

Another highlight of the evening will be La Habitación Roja, a band closely tied to the history of national festivals and the creator of one of the most extensive and recognizable repertoires on the scene.

Between these two performances will come the most eagerly awaited moment: the brief and exceptional appearance of Nosoträsh.

Four or five songs might not seem like many.

But there are comebacks that aren’t measured by how long they last.

A poster that bridges memory and renewal

The anniversary program avoids becoming a mere nostalgic celebration.

The comebacks of Nosoträsh and Meteosat resonate not only with artists representing different eras of Spanish indie music, but also with up-and-coming projects that keep the spirit of discovery alive.

That combination is particularly significant at a time when many festivals end up sharing a considerable portion of their lineups.

“Contempopránea” once again champions individuality as its central theme.

Instead of competing to feature the summer’s most popular acts, it offers an experience rooted in its own history and the audience that has supported the festival for three decades.

How to Get There and Where to Stay

The organization has arranged various services to make it easier for people to attend the CPOP 30 Festival.

Camping and RVs

Attendees will have access to a free municipal campground.

A space for RVs will also be set up next to the Alburquerque pool, an option designed for those who wish to stay in town for the two-day event.

Buses from Badajoz

Autocares Ñuco will offer special services between Badajoz and Alburquerque.

Departures for the festival are scheduled for 7:00 p.m., while return trips will take place in the early morning, around 4:30 a.m.

Professional Chauffeur Service

The Angel Drive platform will also offer a discounted service provided by professional drivers, allowing attendees to return to their destinations in their own vehicles without having to drive.

It is advisable to check the terms and conditions, reservations, and any updates directly on the festival’s official channels before making travel arrangements.

Two Celebrations for the Same Anniversary

The return to Alburquerque will be the first major installment of the 30th-anniversary celebration.

The celebration will continue on October 16 and 17 , 2026 , at the FEVAL venue in Don Benito, where Contempopránea will host a larger-scale edition.

The festival’s official website confirms those dates for the main event and is keeping information regarding tickets and travel up to date.

The dual structure allows the festival to highlight its two aspects.

Alburquerque represents origin, closeness, and memory.

Don Benito: Continuity and the ability to keep growing three decades later.

LoffMusic’s opinion

At a time when some festivals seem to be designed using the same template, Contempopránea reminds us once again that identity remains a value.

The CPOP 30 Festival doesn’t need to aim for grandeur.

Its main appeal lies in something that’s unlikely to be replicated elsewhere: the return to Luna Castle, a community that has grown alongside the festival, and the exceptional performance by a band like Nosoträsh.

His mini-concert will be brief by definition.

That is precisely where its beauty lies.

It isn’t meant to be a grand comeback or to turn nostalgia into a never-ending tour. It’s presented as an intimate, almost private gesture, shared with those who understand what those songs meant.

Contempopránea is celebrating thirty years by looking back at its past, but without getting stuck in it.

It brings back bands, venues, and emotions to champion an idea that still deserves to be upheld: a festival can grow without losing its character and can celebrate its history without turning into a museum.
