Peter Murphy of Bauhaus and Boy George of Culture Club have joined forces for a new song. “Let the Flowers Grow” Murphy said in a press release, came about when he was here in Spain working on a new album and heard a piece of music on producer Youth’s phone. “It caught my attention because of its melodic beauty and a voice similar to Roy Orbison singing the song,” he said. Upon learning it was a Boy George demo, he came up with the version that became “Let the Flowers Grow.”
Boy George added: “When I heard the mix, I was pleased in every way. I’ve always loved Pete’s voice and his writing on this adds a beautiful darkness. The production feels very epic, like Scott Walker.”
The pair met decades ago, when Boy George went backstage to meet Howard Devoto at a Magazine show Bauhaus was supporting. “He struck me as a super-original, self-described 17th century fop guy,” Murphy said in the press release. “The second time I met him was when we went into the BBC to do ‘Ziggy Stardust’ on Top of the Pops, where Culture Club was also making its debut on the show. George greeted me very warmly and I discovered he was a Bauhaus fan.”
