Although the lineup for Coachella is full of great artists of all musical genres, in LoffMusic we like to look at those bands that are not headliners and we are sure that they will be in the next editions and of course in other festivals.
This time we are going to talk about two bands that were not on our radar. THE RED PEARS and of PALACE They have been in the music scene for quite some time and we have found that they sound very good and that they bring a sound from other bands that has evolved thanks to them.
In the heart of the quiet suburban enclave of El Monte, just east of the vibrant pulse of Los Angeles, a musical revolution was quietly simmering. The Red Pears, born from the creative melting pot of this modest town, have emerged as torchbearers of a sound that echoes the eclectic fabric of their upbringing. Henry Vargas, the soulful crooner wielding his guitar, and José Corona, the rhythmic beat behind the drums, form the core of this dynamic trio. His sonic journey draws from the raw energy of early 2000s New York indie rock and grunge, intertwined with the rhythmic cadences of cumbia and the narrative tradition of corridos that once serenaded his childhood days.
The genesis of The Red Pears can be traced back to a chance encounter at a local battle of the bands, where fate conspired to bring kindred spirits together in Henry and Jose. Their shared passion for music ignited a flame that would burn brightly over the years. Fueled by a mutual friend and bassist extraordinaire, Patrick Juarez, the band’s lineup solidified into a formidable trio. United by their love of garage rock and inspired by such luminaries as The White Stripes and The Black Keys, they dubbed themselves The Red Pears, a playful pun on their favorite color and a mischievous nod to the word “pair.”
The road from suburban garages to national recognition was paved with self-released gems like “For Today, For Tomorrow, For What Is, For What Could’ve Been” and the intriguingly titled “We Bring Anything to the Table…. Except Tables We Can’t Bring Tables to the Table”. These early offerings served as the band’s manifesto, propelling them onto the highways and byways of extensive touring. Every mile traveled, every stage conquered, honed his craft and hardened his resolve.
In 2019, The Red Pears unveiled their masterpiece, “Alice,” a heartfelt tribute to the mothers who shaped their lives. This EP showcased a polished alt-rock sound while preserving the raw, untamed spirit that defined their garage origins. But it was their 2021 album, “You Thought We Left Because The Door Was Open, But We Were Waiting Outside,” that marked a turning point for the band. Here, their early influences merged with a newfound maturity, resurrecting the rebellious spirit of garage rock in all its splendor.
At the core of The Red Pears ethos lies an unwavering commitment to authenticity and humility. For Henry, José and Patrick, success is not measured in accolades, but in the purity of their artistic expression. Their relentless pursuit of excellence has caught the attention of media titans such as SPIN, L.A. Times and Remezcla, positioning them as a band to watch. From gracing the cover of the L.A. Times x De Los to captivating audiences at revered venues like The Wiltern and The Greek Theater, The Red Pears have etched their name in the annals of rock history.
As 2024 progresses, The Red Pears stand on the cusp of greatness. With new music on the horizon and a triumphant return to the hallowed grounds of Coachella, his trajectory knows no bounds. From intimate venues to packed arenas, his electrifying performances continue to captivate audiences everywhere. With sponsors like Fender by their side and festivals like Coachella and SXSW calling them, the future is bright for these musical rebels.
In June, they will join Chicano Batman for their inaugural show at The Kia Forum arena, a testament to their meteoric rise. But amidst the glitz and glamour, The Red Pears remain firmly planted, driven by the same passion and humility that ignited their journey. For them, the music will always come first: a timeless testament to the enduring power of rock ‘n’ roll.
As The Red Pears embark on the next leg of their odyssey, one thing becomes clear: their journey is far from over. In a world thirsty for authenticity, they stand as beacons of hope, reminding us that true craftsmanship knows no frontier.
The second is PALACE a British alternative rock band with a solid and forceful sound, at the same time patient and calm that in some moments reminds us of Coldplay’s Parachutes.
The band has just released their fourth album (last April 5th) called Ultrasound, produced by Adam Jaffrey who already produced their debut album. As a preview, the band has shared the album’s first single, Bleach, a song that describes a beautiful relationship with someone dear to them and shows Palace’s sonic evolution, more mature and sophisticated (though just as melancholic).
