Simple Plan has just released a cover of Elton John’s ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’.
Today (July 12), the Canadian pop-punk band released their version of Elton John’s hit from the movie The Lion King, in collaboration with Disney. According to a Billboard report, the song is part of a larger Disney project titled ‘A Whole New Sound,’ which will include new versions of iconic songs written for Disney films.
The cover of ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ is released in the 30th anniversary year of The Lion King.
Simple Plan told Billboard about their cover, “When Disney approached us to be a part of this project, it was a little overwhelming because there are so many amazing Disney songs. But it quickly became apparent that the Lion King repertoire, and especially ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight,’ stood out from the rest. The song has such a classic feel to it, and the melodies are so memorable and timeless. We also felt it would suit our style very well and would sound amazing as a pop-punk version.”
Disney’s ‘A Whole New Sound’ project has no release date yet. It is also not known who else will participate in the covers album.
In other news, Elton John is apparently working on two musicals and is “open to any great ideas.”
In May, the musician’s friend and co-writer Bernie Taupin revealed that the singer’s 32nd studio album is “finished” and will be released soon. Taupin made the comments on ‘The Other Songs Live,’ saying, “Elton and I have an album coming out very soon, but I don’t dare say anything about it because I’m under strict orders to keep quiet. It’s all done and recorded.”
Taupin hinted that the album will “surprise” and “excite” people, adding, “I think it’s quite bright and contemporary and will certainly surprise a lot of people and excite a lot of people and, hopefully, be successful.”
