American alternative rock band Paramore and production company A24 announced last Wednesday a tribute album to the iconic concert film Stop Making Sense by the band Talking Heads. The album, which does not yet have a release date, will feature 16 artists performing a different track from the 1984 film.
The album teaser, which was shared on social media, shows Paramore singer Hayley Williams receiving a box on her doorstep. Upon opening it, Williams finds a gray suit jacket similar to the one worn by Talking Heads singer David Byrne in the original film.
The clip of Paramore’s version of “Burning Down the House,” which is included in the teaser, shows that the band has adapted the song to their own signature style, combining elements of alternative rock with pop punk.
Stop Making Sense was filmed over four nights at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles in 1984. The film features hits such as “Once in a Lifetime” and “Psycho Killer” and is considered one of the best concert films of all time.
Paramore and A24’s album announcement is exciting news for fans of both bands. The collaboration between two contemporary music references promises to result in an album full of surprises and innovative reinterpretations of Talking Heads classics.
In addition to the teaser, the album announcement has also sparked speculation about the possible participation of other artists. Some of the names that have been bandied about include Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Charli XCX, St. Laurent, St. Vincent. Vincent, Moses Sumney, Phoebe Bridgers and Rosalia.
The wait for the complete list of artists and the release date of the album will be long, but the expectation is already at its peak.
Paramore, who recently deleted all posts from their Instagram account, has been active in recent months. The band released its sixth studio album, Re:This Is Why, in February 2023.
A24, on the other hand, is an independent film production company known for its auteur films. The company has produced such films as Moonlight, Lady Bird, The Lighthouse, Midsommar and Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Paramore and A24’s Talking Heads tribute album is a collaboration that has the potential to be a critical and commercial success. The combination of the music of two such influential bands promises to result in a unique and special album.
