At a time when music seems to constantly compete to be bigger, faster and louder, Moby decides to stop. To breathe. Listen.
His new album, Future Quiet, is not just a record release: it’s a statement of principle.
The album, which will be released on February 20, 2026 via BMG, will be the artist’s 23rd studio album and marks a new phase focused on minimalism, calm and introspection. As a first preview, Moby has shared an orchestral reinterpretation of ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die’, now featuring vocals by Gabriels frontman Jacob Lusk.
From 90s cult to global phenomenon thanks to Stranger Things
Originally released in 1995 as part of the album Everything Is Wrong, ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die’ had been one of the most beloved – and quietest – pieces in Moby’s catalog for years. Everything changed when the song was used in the first and fourth seasons of the Netflix series Stranger Things.
The scene turned the song into a viral phenomenon, skyrocketing its listeners to become the most played song of Moby’s entire career, in addition to generating a massive wave of uses on TikTok. Far from resisting this new context, Moby decided to reimagine it.
Jacob Lusk and a voice that transforms the song
The new version of ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die’ replaces Mimi Goese’s original vocals with Jacob Lusk’s emotionally devastating rendition. Moby himself explained it bluntly:
“Like anyone who has heard Jacob sing, I immediately fell in love with his voice. I spent weeks searching for him and begging him to work with me.”
The result is a transcendent, more expansive and spiritual version that elevates the song to a new plane without betraying its essence. Piano, strings and silence combine to create an almost liturgical experience.
Future Quiet and music as a refuge
Far from being an ambient album in the classic sense, Future Quiet explores silence as a political and emotional act. Moby does not disavow excess – “I love bombast, volume and exaggeration,” he says – but he recognizes that today’s world demands spaces of retreat.
“The world screams. The screens scream. People scream. Future Quiet is a refuge.”
The album moves between minimalist piano, ambient landscapes and carefully chosen vocal collaborations, with guests such as serpentwithfeet, India Carney or Elise Serenelle.

Return to the stage with the most ambitious tour in a decade
Future Quiet will be accompanied by Moby’s biggest tour in over ten years, with key dates in 2026. Of particular note is his return to Brighton, with a major concert on the beach this summer: it will be his only UK date and his first in the city in over 25 years.
In addition, Moby will be at festivals such as Coachella, Rock Werchter and Mad Cool Festival, consolidating this new chapter also live.
Silence as resistance
With Future Quiet, Moby does not seek to compete with the noise of the present, but to offer an alternative space. A place where the music does not invade, but accompanies. Where the volume is lowered, but the emotion is intensified.
In times of saturation, silence can also be revolutionary.
