The iconic dance-punk band is back with new music.
LCD Soundsystem has officially released “X-Ray Eyes,” the new song that premiered on NTS Radio in October. James Murphy produced the single, and co-wrote it with Al Doyle and Nancy Whang, the latter of whom also does some vocals with Murphy.
Murphy shared a statement alongside “X-Ray Eyes,” previewing the band’s fifth studio album. He wrote:
“So now there’s a new song from LCD called X-Ray Eyes. It’s the first single from what is taking shape to be a new album. Don’t ask me when it will be, because we’re still working on it. But it feels great to be releasing new music. We did a small run of silkscreened 12 “s that will be sold at the upcoming shows in LA and New York, and DFA will have a limited handful of them, but don’t worry if you don’t get one because there will be a more accessible commercial release of the same record when we can get it together. We just made a bunch of white labels and we’re doing 100 screens at a time for each gig. It’s a short turnaround. And it’s fun. But, no, there’s no finished LP yet. But when we’re not playing live, it’s getting closer and closer to completion. So that’s the news. Anything else you hear is pure speculation.
The Los Angeles shows Murphy mentioned are ongoing at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall, with more to come soon at the Hollywood Palladium. New York concerts will take place at Knockdown Center in November and December.
And, as for the “pure speculation” about a new album, there was a brief moment when it seemed that LCD Soundsystem’s new album would arrive in time for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025, but that is no longer guaranteed.
