There are artists who make music, and there are others who build atmospheres. Jamie xx undoubtedly belongs to the second group. His new track, “Dream Night”, is not just another single in his career: it is a love letter to the unforgettable nights lived among stages, dim lights and crowds connected by rhythm.
After the acclaimed In Waves ( 2024), with which he returned after almost a decade of silence, Jamie xx reopens his notebook of emotions with this hypnotic piece that has been part of his sets throughout the festival season. Now, finally, he releases it officially, as a sonorous postcard of what he has experienced.
🌀 A song born between tours and dance floors.
“Dream Night” has that slow, enveloping pulse that characterizes her more contemplative productions. It doesn’t need to scream to be heard: it glides, catches you and immerses you. Jamie explained in his networks that he composed it during his In Waves world tour, inspired by the “wild and beautiful nights” he experienced playing around the world.
And it shows. There is something deeply emotional and grateful in the chords and samples. As if each beat was a flash of a different night: Tokyo, Barcelona, London, New York… A collage of sensations condensed in four minutes of pure subtlety.
🔮 Jamie xx, the club’s emotional alchemist.
Since In Colour (2015), Jamie xx has shown that he is more than a producer: he is a storyteller who uses synthesizers, silences and bass as others use words. Dream Night doesn’t seek to break the track, but to caress it. It’s that song that plays just when the DJ drops the tempo and the lights turn blue, and suddenly everyone looks around and smiles.
🏟 From festivals to vinyls
The timing is no accident. Jamie has been touring heavily this summer, with stops at Glastonbury, Primavera Sound, Osheaga or Rock en Seine, and has confirmed that he will release a special edition of In Colour to celebrate its tenth anniversary in November. In the meantime, “Dream Night” serves as a link between past and present, between the euphoria of the masses and the post-show melancholy that only the artists fully understand.
Jamie xx does not shout. He whispers. And in that whisper, there is beauty.
