Ezra Collective has returned with their new single ‘Ajala’, marking their first release of 2024. The London-based jazz band, known for their Mercury Prize-winning album‘Where I’m Meant To Be’ in 2022, is preparing to release another highly anticipated album this year. Drummer and band leader Femi Koleoso shared the inspiration behind ‘Ajala’, mentioning the story of Ajala the Traveler, a Nigerian journalist whose adventurous spirit became legendary. Describing the song as a celebration of movement and rhythm, Koleoso likened it to the energy the music ignites within him, resonating with his inability to sit still.
However, we are left with the other song “God Gave Me Feet for Dancing” in which the wonderful voice of Yazlin Lacey collaborates and that seems to us a masterpiece, it is one of those songs that you will listen to over and over again this summer.
Looking ahead, Ezra Collective will embark on a headline UK tour, with a historic concert scheduled at London’s Wembley Arena, making them the first UK jazz band to headline the prestigious venue. Prior to the tour, they will perform new music at a special event at the British Library on May 11, coinciding with the launch of the book and exhibition ‘Beyond the Bassline’, which honors 500 years of British black music history.
Ezra Collective is back with a bang, and their new single ‘Ajala’ promises to keep everyone moving. Don’t miss their upcoming tour and the opportunity to experience their unique energy live. Stay up to date and secure your tickets as soon as possible.
