Everything we know about Foo Fighters’ new album

Foo Fighters has already activated the countdown for their comeback album. The band led by Dave Grohl has confirmed the first details of its expected twelfth studio work, an album that not only marks a new sound stage, but also the debut of its new drummer and the consolidation of its rebirth after the hardest years of its recent history.

This is all that is known so far about “Your Favorite Toy“.

Release date and label

The new album will be released on April 24, 2026 via Roswell Records / RCA, becoming the direct successor to But Here We Are (2023).

It will be the band’s twelfth studio album and the first one recorded entirely with their new line-up after the changes of the last few years.

The first single: the song that changed everything

The album’s title track, “Your Favorite Toy,” was the creative trigger for the project.

Dave Grohl has explained that the song appeared after more than a year of experimentation and set the tone and direction for the rest of the album, functioning as the spark that gave cohesion to the material.

It is a direct, energetic cut with classic Foo Fighters DNA, designed to be played at high volume and to recover the group’s rock muscle.

Tracklist confirmed

The album will have 10 songs and will close with a track that fans are already familiar with:

  1. Caught In The Echo
  2. Of All People
  3. Window
  4. Your Favorite Toy
  5. If You Only Knew
  6. Spit Shine
  7. Unconditional
  8. Child Actor
  9. Amen, Caveman
  10. Asking For A Friend

The fact that “Asking For A Friend” is the closing track reinforces its role as an emotional bridge between the previous stage and the new one.

Ilan Rubin’s debut with Foo Fighters

One of the major highlights of the album is the arrival of Ilan Rubin (Nine Inch Nails) as drummer.

It will be his first official album with the band, filling the position after Josh Freese’s live stint and following the loss of Taylor Hawkins.

Their style, more technical and fast, is already noticeable in the previews and points to a more aggressive and dynamic sound.

How the album was recorded

The album was recorded at Studio 606 in Los Angeles, the band’s headquarters, and has been:

  • Co-produced by Foo Fighters and Oliver Roman
  • Mixed by Mark “Spike” Stent

The process has been described as organic and based on selecting the most powerful songs from dozens of demos, resulting in a particularly energetic album.

Sound and musical direction

Everything points to a job:

  • Harder and faster
  • With up-tempo spirit
  • Close to the most direct and stadium Foo Fighters.

Grohl has acknowledged that many of the songs share a common energy, which has defined the final character of the album.

The emotional weight of Taylor Hawkins

Although the band enters a new phase, the figure of Taylor Hawkins is still present.

Grohl has insisted that the band continues to feel their energy and that their legacy is part of everything they do now.

This connects the new album to But Here We Are, the mourning and rebuilding album released in 2023.

The most original promotional campaign of his career

Prior to the official announcement, Foo Fighters launched a viral action:

  • They transformed their website into a teenage fan’s room.
  • They hid fragments of the songs in posters and interactive objects.

A strategy that appealed to nostalgia and “old school” musical exploration.

The world tour: the next step

The release of the album will be accompanied by the Take Cover Tour, with dates in:

  • Europa
  • North America
  • Australia
  • New Zealand

The tour will run through 2027 and will be the first major live event of this new era.

A key album in Foo Fighters’ history

If But Here We Are was the album of mourning, Your Favorite Toy aims to be the one of reaffirmation:

  • New formation
  • More explosive sound
  • Return to the stage on a global scale

Thirty years after their debut, Foo Fighters once again proves that they are still one of the biggest bands in contemporary rock.
