For this release, the artists have opted for a retro visual concept, recreating the ambiance of classic 70’s country performances. Bruno Mars picks up the guitar while Lady Gaga, in her unmistakable style, sits at the piano with a cigarette between her lips. However, this country wrapper hides a completely different heart.
A far cry from Southern roots, “Die With A Smile” is a powerful soul ballad that evokes the magic of Silk Sonic, the hit duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. With a captivating chorus and skin-raising crescendos, the song once again demonstrates the vocal versatility of both artists.
This unexpected duet marks the musical comeback of both Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Since her collaboration with The Rolling Stones on “Sweet Sounds Of Heaven” last year, the pop star had not released new music. For his part, Mars had been away from the stage since the release of Silk Sonic’s debut album, “An Evening With Silk Sonic,” in 2021.
Speaking about how the collaboration came about, Lady Gaga shared, “Bruno and I have a lot of respect for each other and we were always talking about doing something together. I was finishing my album in Malibu and one night, after a long day, he asked me to come to his studio to listen to something he was working on. It was around midnight when I arrived and I was blown away by what he had started to create. We stayed up all night writing and recording the song. Bruno’s talent is inexplicable. His musicianship and vision are on another level. There is no one like him.
