Canadian Daniel Caesar, one of the most influential names in contemporary R&B, is back with a new album and a sound that promises to redefine his career. The album, entitled Son of Spergywill be released on October 24 on Republic Records and is accompanied by a new preview: “Call on Me”.

After the success of his previous album Never Enough (2023), Caesar returns with a more intimate, honest and experimental work, in which he explores his own identity, the complexity of relationships and the search for emotional connection.

“Call on Me”: a preview with minimalist soul

The new single, “Call on Me”, is an ethereal cut, full of subtlety, with an elegant and minimalist R&B, reminiscent at times of his early work, but with a more mature approach. The song was produced by Jordan Evans, Matthew Burnett and Rami Dawod, regular collaborators of the artist, responsible for building a sound where Caesar’s velvety voice is the absolute protagonist.

In addition, the album will include the already well-known single “Have a Baby (With Me)”, produced with Simon Hessman and Evans, a track that quickly became a fan favorite and hinted at the more introspective direction Son of Spergy is taking.

An album about identity and vulnerability

While Caesar has not shared too many details about the album’s narrative, sources close to the project confirm that Son of Spergy delves into complex personal experiences, with lyrics that explore the discomfort of growing up under the media spotlight, self-discovery and real emotional connections in hyper-connected times.

This more intimate approach marks a contrast to his recent work on high-profile collaborations, such as “Peaches” alongside Justin Bieber and Giveon – a global hit that reached #43 on Pitchfork’s The 100 Best Songs of 2021 list – as well as his involvement with Blood Orange’ s project with “The Field.”
