The closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will feature a spectacular musical celebration starring some of Los Angeles’ most prominent artists.
According to an exclusive report from Variety, the Aug. 11 ceremony will include performances by three of L.A.’s most influential acts – Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and Red Hot Chili Peppers – each representing different facets of the city’s rich cultural heritage.
According to the publication, the artists will appear from Los Angeles in a mix of pre-recorded and live performances in a sort of musical send-up for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Billie Eilish, the voice of a generation
A Highland Park native, Billie Eilish has become one of the most defining musical voices of her generation. Her debut album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”, not only topped the Billboard 200, but also made her the youngest artist to win all four major Grammy categories in a single year.
Eilish, whose hits such as “Bad Guy” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, famously paid homage to her city’s iconic landmarks and culture in her 2021 concert film, “Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles.”
Snoop Dogg, West Coast Icon
Snoop Dogg, a mainstay of West Coast rap, has already been a prominent figure during the Paris Games. From his viral commentary for NBC to his role as a U.S. Olympic torchbearer, Snoop has taken his charisma to the world stage and established himself as a sort of unofficial ambassador for the country.
Snoop’s career, spanning three decades, has consistently appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including his debut single “Who Am I (What’s My Name?)” and collaborations such as “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” Beyond his music career, Snoop has ventured into acting, launched a successful line of cannabis products and even hosted a cooking show with Martha Stewart.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Los Angeles legends
Rounding out the musical trio are local heroes, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Formed in Los Angeles in 1983, the band has been a driving force in the city’s music scene for decades.
The band has a long history of success on the Billboard charts, with albums such as “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” and “Californication” dominating the Billboard 200. Their hit singles “Under the Bridge” and “Scar Tissue” are also mainstays on the Billboard Hot 100.
But the music isn’t the only draw. According to TMZ, Tom Cruise is expected to perform a stunt that rivals his most famous movie scenes.
Cruise will reportedly rappel down from the top of the Stade de France holding the Olympic flag, followed by a pre-taped segment showing him skydiving on the iconic Hollywood sign.
