From Murcia -that peninsular Manchester that never stops giving away talent- comes Malva with a new release that consolidates his place among the most vibrant artists on the Spanish scene. After the debut with Contenido Sensible ( 2024), which led him to be nominated for Best New Artist at the 40 Awards and Best Pop Rock Album by the Spanish Academy of Music, Carlos (voice and soul of the project) returns with “Colombia”, a single that is more than a song: it is a healing journey.
A second album that is looming large
“Colombia” serves as the calling card for what will be Malva’s second album. Recorded in spring and again with the production of Ricardo Ruipérez (M-Clan), the song exhibits a more powerful and expansive sound than in previous releases. The instrumentation is organic, with nuances and harmonies that do not lose freshness, while the melody -contagious and luminous- clings to Carlos’ very personal voice.
The story speaks of a lost summer love, of the search for escape, of that Colombia imagined as a refuge: sun, vitamin D and the promise of a repaired heart. It is, in essence, a hymn against the scars of heartbreak.
Neither pop nor rock: a territory of its own
Putting labels on Malva is a waste of time. Theirs is not the pop you know, nor the rock you think you know. It is a hybrid terrain that takes the best of both languages and transforms it into something new, recognizable and fresh. “Colombia” thus opens doors to new audiences and territories, elevating PopRock in Spanish to less traveled places.
A trajectory that has already added hymns
Although “Colombia” is the novelty, Malva has been building a repertoire that places him as the voice of his generation. Among his previous songs, the following stand out:
- “Benidorm 2020”
- “Broken Voice”
- “For What They Count”.
- “Dos Náufragos” (with Ele Mariani).
- “Twizy Ferrari”
- “Tu Blanco Perfecto” (with Jacinto)
- “New Romantic”
- “I Need to Cure Myself” (with Jules).
- “Ciao Amore” (with Enula).
Each release has been another step in that mix of vulnerability, attitude and melodies that stick to the chest.
The future is already here
Malva is not a promise, it is the present. With “Colombia” she delivers a single that illuminates, heals and elevates Spanish pop rock to a different dimension. If Contenido Sensible presented it in society, this new advance confirms that the immediate future of the genre already has a name.
