Japanese Breakfast returns with new song, new video, new album and world tour 2025!

The wait is over! Japanese Breakfast, the band led by visionary Michelle Zauner, has announced their fourth studio album, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), and released its first single: ‘Orlando In Love’. They have also revealed the dates of their highly anticipated 2025 world tour.

A Gothic and Romantic Twist on its Sound

After winning over audiences with the critically acclaimed Jubilee and Zauner’s literary success with her book Crying In H Mart, Japanese Breakfast is ready to delve into darker and deeper territories. Produced by Grammy winner Blake Mills (Sky Ferreira, Fiona Apple), this new album promises to be a masterpiece: “a mature, intricate and contemplative work that evokes the romantic emotion of a gothic novel,” according to a press release.

Inspired by the landscape of European Romanticism, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) marks a radical departure from the band’s previous sounds, such as the futuristic approach of Soft Sounds from Another Planet (2017) and the vibrant energy of Jubilee (2021).

The first preview of this new era is ‘Orlando In Love’, a song that combines literary references with an emotionally charged atmosphere. Inspired by the work of writer John Cheever and Matteo Maria Boiardo’s Renaissance epic Orlando Innamorato, the track promises to capture the essence of romantic love and melancholy.
