Denis Villeneuve unveils the highly anticipated first trailer for *Dune: Part Three*, but it’s Hans Zimmer’s new music that once again thrills millions of viewers. The composer promises to bring one of the most influential soundtracks in modern cinema to a close.

Some trailers show footage, while others are heard before they’re even seen. The first official trailer for Dune: Part Three falls into that second category.

Although the return of Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, and Anya Taylor-Joy —along with the addition of Robert Pattinson as Scytale—has dominated much of the conversation, for music lovers, the real star is once again Hans Zimmer.

And this is no coincidence.

Since he began collaborating with Denis Villeneuve in 2021, Zimmer has transformed the musical identity of *Dune* into one of the most recognizable soundtracks in contemporary cinema.

Hans Zimmer Reimagines the Dune Universe Once Again

Far from repeating the formula of the first two films, the German composer introduces new vocal elements, ritual percussion, and a much darker atmosphere in the trailer.

Early musical analyses highlight an even more aggressive use of choruses, breathing sounds, and ceremonial chants that accompany Paul Atreides’s final transformation into Muad’Dib.

In just a two-minute trailer, Zimmer manages to convey exactly what Denis Villeneuve had already hinted at: this will not be a film about conquest, but about consequences.

The Evolution of the Sound of Arrakis

While the first film built up the mystery of the planet and the second embraced the epic nature of the holy war, *Dune: Part Three* takes a much more introspective approach.

Music accompanies that change.

The female voices that defined the Bene Gesserit are still present, but they are now accompanied by new male choruses, tribal percussion, and Timothée Chalamet’s own voice, woven into the trailer’s soundscape.

It’s an unusual device, even for Zimmer, and one that reinforces the idea that Paul Atreides is no longer just leading a war: he has become a legend.

The Most Anticipated Soundtrack of the Year

The music for *Dune* marked a turning point in Hans Zimmer’s career.

His work on the first film earned him an Oscar for Best Original Score, as well as a Grammy and a BAFTA, while *Dune: Part Two* once again established him as one of the leading figures in contemporary cinema.

With this third film, the composer faces the challenge of bringing a trilogy to a close—one that many are already comparing to the musical impact of Howard Shore’s *The Lord of the Rings * or John Williams’ *Star Wars *.

A much darker ending

Based on Dune Messiah, the novel published by Frank Herbert in 1969, the film takes place 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two.

Paul Atreides rules the known universe, but the price of his power threatens to destroy everything he set out to protect. Denis Villeneuve has described this third installment as a political and psychological thriller, very different in tone from the previous two films.

An all-star cast

The film once again brings together some of the biggest names in Hollywood today:

  • Timothée Chalamet

  • Zendaya

  • Florence Pugh

  • Rebecca Ferguson

  • Javier Bardem

  • Jason Momoa

  • Anya Taylor-Joy

  • Charlotte Rampling

  • Robert Pattinson

  • Nakoa-Wolf Momoa

  • Ida Brooke

All under the direction of Denis Villeneuve, who has confirmed that this will be his final farewell to the Dune universe.

When is ” Dune: Part Three” coming out?

The film will be released exclusively in theaters on December 18, 2026, including IMAX screenings, and will mark the conclusion of one of the most acclaimed science fiction franchises of the past decade.

Music will once again make all the difference

If there’s one thing Hans Zimmer has proven in recent years, it’s that a soundtrack can become another character in the story.

The first trailer for *Dune: Part Three* confirms that this philosophy remains intact.

Because even before hearing a single word from Paul Atreides, the viewer already knows that he has returned to Arrakis.

And that, for the most part, is thanks to the music.
