Because Jos\u00e9 Monje Cruz not only revolutionized flamenco. He transformed Spanish music forever. <\/p>\n\n
His influence crosses generations, styles and borders. It is present in contemporary flamenco, pop, rock, jazz, urban music and in practically any artist who has understood music as a form of freedom. <\/p>\n\n
For this reason, on the 75th anniversary of his birth, the Spanish music industry has decided to pay tribute to him.<\/p>\n\n
And it won’t be just any concert.<\/p>\n\n
It will be a historic event.<\/p>\n\n
On December 1, 2026<\/strong>, the Movistar Arena in Madrid<\/strong> will host “Por Camar\u00f3n – 75 Aniversario”<\/strong>, a unique show conceived as an unrepeatable celebration of the legacy of the cantaor from San Fernando.<\/p>\n\n One night only.<\/p>\n\n A unique opportunity.<\/p>\n\n And probably one of the most important musical events to be held in Spain during this decade.<\/p>\n\n Since its official presentation at the UMusic Hotel Teatro Alb\u00e9niz in Madrid, it has been clear that “Por Camar\u00f3n” is not intended to be a simple gathering of artists performing classics.<\/p>\n\n The proposal has been designed as a complete stage experience that will cover Camar\u00f3n’s life, work and artistic revolution.<\/p>\n\n The show will be divided into three main acts:<\/p>\n\n A journey through the artistic imprint he left on later generations.<\/p>\n\n A return to the origins of flamenco and the influences that shaped his singing.<\/p>\n\n The moment when Camar\u00f3n broke the rules and opened a new path for Spanish music.<\/p>\n\n Throughout the performance, Camar\u00f3n’s own voice will be present through original recordings that will dialogue with the guest artists, generating an unprecedented emotional experience.<\/p>\n\n Although the full line-up has not yet been revealed, the organization has confirmed the participation of almost thirty artists from different generations and musical styles.<\/p>\n\n They all share the same bond:<\/p>\n\n having grown up under the influence of Camar\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n The presentation was attended by key figures such as:<\/p>\n\n In addition, Alejandro Sanz wanted to join the tribute through an audiovisual message in which he defined Camar\u00f3n as “the greatest artist of flamenco”.<\/p>\n\n This is no coincidence.<\/p>\n\n Because few figures have achieved something as extraordinary as he has:<\/p>\n\n become an absolute reference for artists who are completely different from each other.<\/p>\n\n From Paco de Luc\u00eda to Rosal\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n From Enrique Morente to C. Tangana.<\/p>\n\n From Tomatito to Alejandro Sanz.<\/p>\n\n They all drink, directly or indirectly, from a revolution that began more than half a century ago.<\/p>\n\n To speak of Camar\u00f3n is to speak of one of the greatest turning points in the history of Spanish music.<\/p>\n\n Born in San Fernando (C\u00e1diz) in 1950, he began singing when he was just a child.<\/p>\n\n But no one could have imagined then that this young man would end up transforming the language of flamenco forever.<\/p>\n\n Together with Paco de Luc\u00eda he made some of the most important recordings in the history of the genre.<\/p>\n\n And later, with albums such as “La Leyenda del Tiempo”<\/strong>, he opened a door that is still being explored today.<\/p>\n\n That work, initially misunderstood by the more orthodox sectors, would end up becoming one of the most influential albums ever published in Spain.<\/p>\n\n Not only did flamenco change.<\/p>\n\n It changed the way of understanding tradition.<\/p>\n\n During the presentation of the event, Dolores Montoya “La Chispa”, Camar\u00f3n’s widow, summed up perfectly what his figure represents today:<\/p>\n\n “If my husband was great alive, he’s even greater alive now.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n And it is hard to disagree.<\/p>\n\n Because rarely has an artist managed to maintain such a constant presence decades after his disappearance.<\/p>\n\n His music continues to be discovered generation after generation.<\/p>\n\n His records continue to be studied.<\/p>\n\n And his interpretations continue to be an obligatory reference for any cantaor.<\/p>\n\n As guitarist and producer Jorge Pardo pointed out during the event:<\/p>\n\n “Camar\u00f3n was, above all, a free artist.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n Perhaps that is the best possible definition.<\/p>\n\n “Por Camar\u00f3n – 75 Aniversario” is part of an extensive cultural program promoted on the occasion of the anniversary.<\/p>\n\n The commemoration is supported by:<\/p>\n\n In addition, during the presentation it was also announced the creation of the future Camar\u00f3n de la Isla Awards<\/strong>, which will take place in San Fernando and will seek to recognize excellence in the world of flamenco.<\/p>\n\n It is difficult to find recent precedents for such a production in Spain.<\/p>\n\n It will not be a tour.<\/p>\n\n There will not be a second date.<\/p>\n\n It will not be repeated in other cities.<\/p>\n\n “Por Camar\u00f3n” is born with the vocation of a unique event.<\/p>\n\n A meeting designed to remember why the figure of Camar\u00f3n continues to be one of the great cultural pillars of our country.<\/p>\n\n And also to remember something we sometimes forget:<\/p>\n\n that its influence does not only belong to flamenco.<\/p>\n\n It belongs to all Spanish music.<\/p>\n\n There are tributes.<\/p>\n\n And there are events.<\/p>\n\n Everything points to the fact that “Por Camar\u00f3n – 75 Aniversario” clearly belongs to the second category.<\/p>\n\n Because it is not only about celebrating the memory of an artist.<\/p>\n\n It is about understanding how a single voice was able to change the course of the music of an entire country.<\/p>\n\n And that happens very rarely in history.<\/p>\n\n On December 1, Madrid will not only celebrate an anniversary.<\/p>\n\n It will celebrate a legend.<\/p>\n\n
