After ten years without an album, Anthrax return with ‘Cursum Perficio’, an album that sounds like an epic farewell… even though they swear it’s not.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

There are legendary bands that come back for nostalgia.<\/p>\n\n

And then there are those that come back because they still have something to destroy.<\/p>\n\n

Anthrax clearly seems to belong to the second group.<\/p>\n\n

After a decade without releasing new material, the thrash metal pioneers have just announced Cursum Perficio<\/em>, their first album since For All Kings<\/em> (2016).<\/p>\n\n

And honestly…<\/p>\n\n

does not sound like an affluent band.<\/p>\n\n

Sounds like an angry band.<\/p>\n\n

Very angry.<\/p>\n\n

\u26a1 ‘It’s For The Kids’ and four minutes of pure thrash violence.<\/h1>\n\n

The first preview of the album is called ‘It’s For The Kids’.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

And from the first seconds it is very clear what the mission was:<\/p>\n\n

\ud83d\udc49 recovering the wild spirit of the first Anthrax.<\/p>\n\n

The theme mixes:<\/p>\n\n

  • ultra-fast riffs<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • explosive batteries<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    as if the band had decided to completely ignore the current trends in modern metal.<\/p>\n\n

    The most intriguing detail of the ad is not the music.<\/p>\n\n

    It is the title.<\/p>\n\n

    ‘Cursum Perficio’<\/strong> means in Latin:<\/p>\n\n

    \ud83d\udc49 “I have finished the journey.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n

    And that has immediately triggered theories about a possible final farewell.<\/p>\n\n

    Drummer Charlie Benante explained that he found the phrase while watching a documentary about Marilyn Monroe, where it was written on the actress’ last house.<\/p>\n\n

    And something clicked.<\/p>\n\n

    Although the band insists that this is NOT the end…<\/p>\n\n

    there is something about the tone of the album that does seem deeply reflective.<\/p>\n\n

    As if Anthrax were looking back while still moving forward.<\/p>\n\n

    Anthrax’s return comes at a curious time for metal.<\/p>\n\n

        This is also evident in the music video for It’s For The Kids<\/em>, which explicitly pays homage to the aesthetics of their golden years.<\/p>\n\n

        And honestly…<\/p>\n\n

        works much better than expected.<\/p>\n\n

        \ud83c\udf0e Anthrax are still a giant band outside of the algorithm.<\/h1>\n\n

        While many, many bands rely on Spotify or TikTok…<\/p>\n\n

        Anthrax continue to survive where it really matters:<\/p>\n\n

        The band will kick off a European tour with Iron Maiden later this month before taking part in Louder Than Life, one of the most important metal festivals in the United States.<\/p>\n\n

        And that confirms something important:<\/p>\n\n

        the metal audience continues to function in a completely different way than the mainstream.<\/p>\n\n

        Much more faithful.<\/p>\n\n

        Much more physical.<\/p>\n\n

        Much less dependent on trends.<\/p>\n\n

        That may be the most important thing of all.<\/p>\n\n

        Because many legendary meetings convey obligation.<\/p>\n\n

        Adrenaline.<\/p>\n\n

        As if Anthrax had decided to make exactly the record they wanted to make without thinking too much about the market.<\/p>\n\n

        that’s usually the best time for a band.<\/p>\n\n
