Just when it seemed that their recent legacy was marked by catalog revisions and nostalgia, U2 unexpectedly bursts forth with Days of Ash<\/em>, a six-song EP that returns the group to its natural territory: music as a moral, emotional and political statement.<\/p>\n\n

Released on February 18, 2026<\/strong>, the work marks their first collection of original material since Songs of Experience<\/em> (2017)<\/strong> and marks a new creative chapter for the Irish band with production by regular collaborator Jacknife Lee.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

It is not a comfortable return. It is a necessary return. <\/p>\n\n

\n\n

An EP born from the urgency of the present<\/h2>\n\n

Far from the epic narrative of their greatest albums, Days of Ash<\/em> functions as a concise work – barely 23 minutes – that concentrates some of the band’s most direct and contemporary compositions in years.<\/p>\n\n

The new songs address real and recent events:<\/p>\n\n

  • the death of Ren\u00e9e Good in Minneapolis<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the murder of the young Iranian woman Sarina Esmailzadeh<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the story of the Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    In addition, the EP includes a musicalization of a poem by Israeli writer Yehuda Amichai<\/strong>, reinforcing the humanistic and transversal tone of the project.<\/p>\n\n

    The result connects with the most combative tradition of U2: that of War<\/em>, The Joshua Tree<\/em> or All That You Can’t Leave Behind<\/em>, but from a contemporary sound aesthetic.<\/p>\n\n

    Sound with intimacy, tension and restrained electricity<\/h2>\n\n

    Recorded between Ireland and the United States, the EP abandons grandiloquence to go for:<\/p>\n\n

    • atmospheric guitars<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • minimalist rhythmic bases<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • a voice of Bono in the foreground, almost narrative<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

      There is no artifice: there is urgency.<\/p>\n\n

      The first international reactions coincide in pointing out that the group is once again writing about “big issues” with a current look<\/strong>, something that had been diluted in their last releases.<\/p>\n\n

      The format is also a message<\/h2>\n\n
